Part-time Library Assistant

$13.00 an hour

Approx. 8 to 10 hours a week

Includes daytime shifts, possibly one evening a week, and every Saturday.

The Narberth Community Library is seeking a friendly, customer service driven, skilled individual with a strong interest in public library service to fill the position of a Part-time Library Assistant. 

The Library Assistant greets, directs, and provides information to library users, and performs a variety of clerical tasks related primarily to the processing, sorting, and circulation of library materials. The Library Assistant performs both routine and complex data entry into a database of library user and bibliographic information. This position involves a great deal of contact with the public.  The ideal candidate will enjoy interacting with the children, teens, parents, working professionals and active retired adults in our community.

Key responsibilities include:

Performing circulation desk duties, providing information and technology assistance to library patrons, shelving materials and ensuring a welcoming and friendly environment to patrons of all ages.

The person in this position must be proficient in using library online and print resources to provide information service, knowledgeable and practiced in using current and emerging technologies and social media, and able to provide informal instruction in basic computer literacy to patrons. 

We are also seeking to expand our Children’s programming in the future.  A candidate with an interest in children’s services would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be comfortable and capable using and demonstrating library resources and software in all formats, including computers, tablets, smartphones, and gadgets, and will have a strong knowledge of technology.

Requirements of the position:

Experience working with the public, in a customer service oriented role. Familiarity with and/or an enthusiasm towards learning about library automation systems, databases, and online resources. A love of literature and a wide range of reading interests. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Valid PA Driver’s License is required. Creativity and interest in developing children’s and adult programs is a plus.

Flexibility in scheduling is desired.

  • Saturdays: 10am-2pm (July & August)
